This is an original 1936 black and white photolithograph of a painting by Auguste Renoir titled “The Lace-Needle.” This piece was illustrated by Renoir, Auguste. There is no visible artist signature. Renoir, Pierre-Auguste
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) was a French artist famous for his influence on the Impressionist painting style. As a child he painted designs on fine china, hangings for overseas missionaries and decorated fans before enrolling in art school. Renoir traveled all over drawing inspiration from famous painters and museums, but on one of his trips he contracted health problems. In his later years, he moved closer to the warm Mediterranean coast to ease these problems. He kept painting through his arthritis even though he had to have help placing the brush in his hand.
